The Robbery
In a huge mansion, in the middle of a beautiful countryside with a breath-taking view of valleys and hills, a family of four were having dinner at the dining table. There was a mouth-watering spread which included meatloaf, spaghetti, roast chicken, pea soup and a dark forest cake. All of them were enjoying the wonderful meal when suddenly, they heard a muffled thump from the attic. The parents, sent their children upstairs to investigate and they reluctantly agreed. The children were a girl and boy called Flora and Benjamin, they quietly climbed up the steps and opened the door of the crawlspace, to enter the attic.
They crawled through the narrow passageway and stepped out into a huge room with all kinds of antiques neatly packed and kept all around. There was a grandfather clock, a china tea set, an intricately carved wooden table with a glass top, a portrait of their grandfather, a violin case, an old fashioned ceramic teapot and right in the middle was a man tied to a chair with a rope, and a tape on his mouth. The children were shocked to see him and he started mumbling but they couldn’t understand what he was saying because the tape on his mouth was muffling his words. Flora and Benjamin decided to remove the tape, and they harshly peeled it of his mouth. The man didn’t even wince as the children did this, and they also untied his hands. The young man’s hands were sore and his skin had peeled around his wrist because of the tight ropes. At first, the children were speechless, their parents had told them what to do in situations like this and Flora and Benjamin led the man downstairs to their parents.
When the three of them reached the parents, the man started speaking very quickly. He was talking about FBI agents, criminals, security and theft but the children and parents could barely catch a few words from what he was saying. The parents asked the man to slow down and start over. The man replied, “I’m sorry, my name is Bill Smith and I am an FBI agent. I was sent to track a criminal who recently robbed a museum and we believe his next step is to rob your mansion.
Everyone was shocked at hearing this, and after an awkward silence the mother spoke, “Are you certain that his next step is to rob our mansion?” “Yes Mrs. Brown, we are sure of it, I will call for back up and surround your house with our best marshals, there is no need to worry”. But before the marshals arrived Mrs Brown let out a scream from upstairs. Bill rushed up the stairs to check what had happened, and he saw it too, their vault was smashed to pieces and all their jewelry and money was GONE!
