Aru Shah is a series of 5 books and this is a review on the 4th one; Aru Shah and the City of Gold. It is written by Roshani Chokshi; an Indian girl who lived in Georgia. The main character in this book is Aru Shah as you would have already guessed. She is accompanied by a group of friends, Mini, Aiden and Brynne. Her soul dad is Indra; the lord of thunder, she is a reincarnation of Arjuna. Brynne’s soul dad is Vayu; the lord of wind and Mini’s soul dad is Dharma Raja; the lord of death. Aiden doesn’t have a soul dad but his mom is an apsara; they are beautiful goddesses that dance for the gods’ entertainment. Aru Shah and the City of Gold mainly takes place in Lanka which is known as the city of gold. Aru Shah, Brynne, Mini and Aiden embark on an adventure to Lanka to get an army and weapon to defeat the Sleeper; their main enemy. He arose from a lamp in Book 1 and turns out to be Aru Shah’s biological dad. They face a few obstacles throughout the way but get through them and this makes the book more interesting. It is based on Indian mythology and it is an adventure fiction book. If you like reading books based on mythology, this is a must read.
